Haters will say it's photoshop... but in reality, I only know how to use Lightroom at the moment and the end result of these photos were a complete accident! So here’s a little backstory...
One of my things as of late has been collecting vintage cameras, and a while back I stumbled upon this gentleman who was getting rid of some of his collection online. All I had for reference was a description that read '30+ film cameras' along with two pictures that showed them crammed into a dusty storage bin. I was able to recognize a few things in there, so I snagged the entire collection and that was that!
After pulling everything out and dusting it all off, I noticed there was some expired 35mm & FP-100C film that was left behind in the bin. Without any hesitation, I grabbed what was a Vista Plus 35mm roll and loaded it into a Canon Sureshot 85 Zoom not knowing what the outcome was going to be. The results… accidental double exposures…
Now I know what you might be thinking. How exactly did this happen? Usually, when you have a fresh 35mm roll there’s a small amount of the film sticking out so you can properly load it into you camera, which is exactly what I saw in this case but now after seeing what happened, I think this roll just wasn’t fully wound back into the canister itself after it was done being used to take photographs. Although, I could be wrong.
I was a little confused but I wasn’t all that disappointed with the results. What you see here technically are double exposure photographs: one set of exposures shot by yours truly within the past year, while the other set of exposures were shot in Newport, Rhode Island anywhere from 10 to 15 years ago on the same exact roll of film!
With a little bit of help from the internet and some context clues I grabbed from the photos, I was able to put this theory together but in the end it was all just an accident. The experimental side of photography is one of the many reasons why I love it, there really is no right or wrong way to approach it. My only hope is that the next time I mess with double exposure photography, is that it’s done on purpose.
Much love & many blessings! ✌🏽❤️ -CR
